Short version: charades stays on your device, and quiz rooms keep names and answers only while the room is open.

Couch Club is run by Idistic, the product studio of TWINDLE NEDERLAND B.V. (the Netherlands). We collect as little as possible. Charades needs nothing from you. Quiz rooms need the display names you type (pick a nickname if you prefer); names and answers are deleted when the room closes, at most four hours after it opened.

What stays on your device

For charades, team names, player names, the current match (its deck, turns, taps, corrections and scores), the prompts already shown on this device and your settings are stored in your browser’s local storage under keys starting with cc1:. They are never sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them. If your browser blocks storage, the game still works but a reload ends the match.

Quiz rooms

When you host or join a Quick Quiz room, our server keeps what the room needs while it is open: the display name each phone types (and the number of people on it), the answers given, the scores and the host’s settings. Each device gets a random key that lets it rejoin its seat; it is stored in your browser under keys starting with ccr1:, and our server keeps only a scrambled copy. A room closes after 30 minutes without play or four hours at most, or when the host closes it, and then its names, answers and scores are deleted. We keep only anonymous daily counts (for example, how many rooms and games there were). Room codes, keys, names and answers are never sent to analytics or written to logs. To limit abuse, the server counts requests per network address for a short time, using a scrambled form of the address that is discarded daily.

Names must not be offensive. The host can remove a player and clear a name from the room. To report a problem with a room or a name, email support@twindle.nl (English or Dutch).

Analytics

We use Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that we host ourselves at stats.idistic.com. It sets no cookies and builds no profile of you. It counts page views and a few game events: a match started (with the pack IDs, the number of turns, the seconds per turn and the team sizes), a turn finished, a match finished, a rematch, a match abandoned and a setting changed; for quiz rooms, a room created or joined, and a game started (with the mode, question set, seconds and the number of devices and people) or finished. Prompts, questions, answers, room codes, team names and player names are never sent. The details, including how Umami counts visits, are in the legal details below.

Device permissions

Couch Club never asks for your camera, microphone, location, contacts or motion sensors. During a turn it may ask the browser to keep the screen awake, which needs no permission and stops when the turn ends.

Offline play

To load quickly and work offline, your browser keeps a copy of Couch Club’s pages and scripts on your device. Nothing about your games is in that copy.

Hosting

The site is hosted on a server in Germany (Hetzner). Like every web server, it briefly processes your IP address to deliver the pages.

The legal details

This part is what the GDPR (article 13) asks us to tell you, kept short.

Who is responsible

Couch Club is run by TWINDLE NEDERLAND B.V. (trading as Idistic), a Dutch private limited company. That company is the controller for the personal data described on this page. Contact: support@twindle.nl (English or Dutch). Company details.

What we use, why, and for how long

  • Sending you the pages. Our web server uses your IP address and the address of the page you ask for, only to answer the request. We keep no access logs. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
  • Limiting abuse. To stop anyone flooding the quiz rooms and the request form, the server counts requests per scrambled IP address: a one-way code made with a key that is thrown away every day. Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the service available (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Kept: one day at most.
  • Visitor statistics. With Umami, which we host ourselves, we count page views and a few game events: the page, the site you came from, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language. Umami works out your country, region and city from your IP address without storing the address, and recognises repeat visits within a month by a one-way code made from your IP address, browser details and a secret that changes every month, which cannot be turned back into either. It sets no cookies and cannot follow you from one site to another. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in learning which pages and games people use, so we can improve them (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Kept: 25 months.
  • Quiz rooms. The display names you type (a nickname is fine), the number of people per phone, the answers, the scores, the host’s settings and a scrambled copy of each device’s rejoin key. Legal basis: running the game you host or join (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Kept: until the room closes, at most 4 hours; then everything is deleted and only anonymous daily counts remain.
  • Asking for a Quiz Host test link. Your name, email address and what you tell us about your quiz night, so we can reply and send you a link. Legal basis: steps you ask for before a possible contract (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Kept: up to 2 years after the conversation ends.
  • When you email us. Your email address and your message, to answer you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in helping you (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), or our contract with you when it is about a purchase (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Kept: up to 2 years after the conversation ends.

Who else is involved

  • Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany) runs the servers this site and our services use, in its data centre in Nuremberg, Germany, as our processor.
  • Amazon Web Services (Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL, Luxembourg) sends our emails from its data centres in Frankfurt, Germany, as our processor. It only receives the address, the subject and the text of each email. Amazon may transfer data to Amazon Web Services, Inc. in the United States; that transfer is covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
  • Nobody else. We don’t sell data and don’t share it with advertisers.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the personal data we have about you, to correct or delete it, to restrict its use, or to give it to you in a format you can take elsewhere. You can also object to what we do on the basis of legitimate interest (statistics and abuse limits). Email support@twindle.nl; we answer within one month. Because we don’t ask who you are, we often can’t link stored data to you; tell us which site you used and when, and we’ll do what we can. Data kept in your own browser is yours: clear this site’s data in your browser settings to delete it. Every No Fuss Games game lives on nofussgames.com, so clearing that site’s data removes your progress in all of them at once; each game keeps its own saves under its own names, so nothing else is affected. A content blocker that blocks stats.idistic.com stops the statistics entirely; the site works the same.

You never have to give us personal data to use this site. We make no automated decisions about you.

If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or to the authority in your own country. We’d appreciate hearing from you first.
