A calm class quiz for the board

Show a code on the projector. Pupils join on any phone, tablet or Chromebook with a nickname, everyone answers the same question, and the board shows what the class thought, then the answer drawn to scale.

How a lesson goes

About ten minutes for ten questions. Everything runs in the browser; you need nothing else.

  1. Open the board

Start a class quiz on the computer connected to the projector. You get a code and a QR code. Pick a question set, how many questions and a timer.

  2. Pupils join

They go to nofussgames.com/classroom/join, type the code and a nickname. Names appear on the board as they arrive; rename or remove anyone with a click.

  3. Everyone answers

The question is on the board and on every pupil’s screen, with big answer buttons. The board counts answers, never who answered what.

  4. Talk about it

The board shows how the class answered, the right answer and the picture behind it: two things drawn to the same scale, a flag, a number. Then the next question, and a summary at the end.

The questions

1,734 questions from our own games, where every fact is checked against independent sources. Choose 5, 10 or 15 per round; a room doesn’t repeat questions while the set has new ones.

  • Size Duel

    Size Duel · 150 questions · 2 choices

Which is bigger, longer, taller or heavier? Two things, one pick, then both drawn to the same scale.

  • Older Than

    Size Duel · 150 questions · 2 choices

Which came first? Inventions, buildings, works and events on one time ruler.

  • Population Duel

    Size Duel · 150 questions · 2 choices

Which country has more people? Then both populations drawn as figures.

  • Further North?

    Size Duel · 150 questions · 2 choices

Which city is further north? Then both on a globe and a latitude scale.

  • Flags: well known

    Atlas Play · 96 questions · 4 choices

96 flags most pupils will have seen, with four countries to choose from.

  • Flags of the world

    Atlas Play · 193 questions · 4 choices

All 193 flags in Atlas Play, from the well known to the hard ones.

  • Capital cities

    Atlas Play · 97 questions · 4 choices

97 well-known countries: name the capital, or the country a capital belongs to.

  • Ballpark numbers

    Ballpark · 748 questions · 4 choices

748 real figures (distances, heights and lengths, years, populations, areas, how many): pick the right one of four.

Calm by design

A quiz should help a class think, not race. So:

  • No points for speed.A right answer is one point, whether it took two seconds or twenty.
  • Leaderboard hidden.Unless you show it. Pupils see their own result on their own screen.
  • Your pace.No timer, 20 or 30 seconds. Pause whenever a question starts a good conversation.
  • No sounds, no confetti.Nothing flashes or plays music. Light and dark themes for any room.
  • Big, clear buttons.Letters, shapes and colours together, keyboard friendly, readable at the back of the room.
  • Same question for all.Everyone sees one question at a time, so the discussion afterwards is about the same thing.

Privacy, written for schools

Classroom was built to need as little data as possible about pupils. In short:

What pupils give
A nickname they choose. Ask them not to use their full name. No accounts, emails, photos, chat, microphone or camera.
What is processed
The nickname, which answer each pupil gave to each question, and the scores worked out from them, so the board can show results.
How long
Only while the room is open: until you close it, 30 minutes without play, or four hours at most. Then every nickname and answer is deleted.
No tracking of pupils
No cookies, no advertising, no profiles. The pupils’ page and the board load no statistics at all; only these teacher pages count visits, without cookies.
Where
On our own server in Germany (Hetzner, Nuremberg). Nothing is shared with anyone else.
Who
TWINDLE NEDERLAND B.V., the Netherlands (Idistic). Questions about privacy: support@twindle.nl.

Questions teachers ask

What do I need?

A computer connected to the projector or board for you, and a phone, tablet or Chromebook with a web browser for each pupil (pairs or small teams can share one). Nothing to install. Pupils go to nofussgames.com/classroom/join and type the code on the board, or scan its QR code.

Do pupils need an account or an email address?

No. Pupils only type a nickname. There are no accounts, no sign-up, no email addresses and no passwords, for you or for them.

What happens to the nicknames and answers?

They are kept on our server only while the room is open. When you close the room, after 30 minutes without play, or after four hours at most, every nickname and answer is deleted. We keep only anonymous counts, such as how many class quizzes were played that day.

How many pupils can join?

Up to 40 per room. Pupils who join during a question take part from the next one.

Is there a timer? Points for speed?

You choose: no timer, 20 seconds or 30 seconds per question, and you can pause at any time. A right answer is one point, however fast it was. There are no points for speed, so nobody has to rush.

Will the class see a ranking?

Only if you want. The leaderboard is hidden until you show it. Pupils always see their own result on their own screen.

What if a pupil types something unkind as a nickname?

A built-in word list stops the obvious ones, and every name must be unique in the room. You can rename or remove any pupil from the board with two clicks.

What if a phone loses its connection or the page reloads?

Opening the page again on the same device brings the pupil back into the quiz with their answers. The board works the same way: reopen it on the same computer.

Where do the questions come from?

From our own games, where every fact has been checked against independent sources: Size Duel, Older Than, Population Duel, Further North?, Flags: well known, Flags of the world, Capital cities, Ballpark numbers. 1,734 questions in all.

Can I print the results?

Yes. At the end, “Print summary” prints a table of nicknames and answers per question from your own browser. That printout is the only copy: we don’t keep one.

Does it cost anything?

No. Classroom is free, with no adverts and no premium tier.
