Does Mexico have more people than Bangladesh?
No. Mexico has fewer people than Bangladesh: about 132 million against 176 million (World Bank estimates for 2025); Bangladesh has 1.3 times as many.
Bangladesh is also more crowded: 1,350 people per km² of land against 67.9.

Why it surprises
Mexico is a big country, 13th by land area in our deck, with one of the world’s largest cities as its capital. Bangladesh is about one fifteenth of its size. Surely Mexico has more people? It does not: the World Bank’s 2025 estimates give Bangladesh about 176 million people and Mexico about 132 million, a difference of about 44 million. The answer lies in density. Bangladesh has about 1,350 people for every square kilometre of land, one of the highest figures of any country, while Mexico has about 68. Bangladesh’s national figures describe a very densely settled country, in the countryside as well as in its cities. In the population ranking of our deck Mexico is 11th in the world; Bangladesh is eighth, ahead of both Mexico and Russia.
