Privacy
Pub Quiz is run by Idistic, the product studio of TWINDLE NEDERLAND B.V. (the Netherlands). We collect as little as possible: there is no account, and we never ask for your name or email.
Your answers
The editions you play, the mode you chose (multiple choice or typed), the answers you gave, where you are and your theme are stored in your browser’s local storage on your device, under keys starting with pq1:. Answers are checked in the page itself and never sent anywhere. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes it all.
Comparing your result
When you finish this week’s quiz in its own week, Pub Quiz can show one line on how other players did, such as “The most common score this week is 31/50. You matched or beat 64% of players.” (only once at least five people have played it; never in Calm). For that, your browser sends one result to our own comparison service at pd-api.idistic.com, which Pub Quiz shares with other No Fuss games: the game, the date of the edition, how many of the fifty you got right, how long you took and how many questions you answered, with a random id kept in your browser under pq1:cmp. Which answers you picked or typed is never sent, and nothing is sent for older editions or team rooms. To stop it, switch off Compare my result in Settings.
Team quiz nights
When you host or join a quiz night, our room service keeps the room while it runs: the team names you type, an optional nickname per phone, which answers each phone and team gave, the jokers, the scores, and a scrambled copy of each device’s rejoin key. No accounts, emails, photos or chat. When the host closes the room, or after 30 quiet minutes or four hours at most, all of it is deleted; only anonymous daily counts remain, such as how many quiz nights were played. The host’s computer keeps its room key under pq1:host, a phone its seat under pq1:seat. The big screen and the phone page never load statistics.
Analytics
We use Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool we host ourselves at stats.idistic.com. It sets no cookies and builds no profile. Besides page views it counts a few events: a visit started, an edition started or finished (the score out of fifty, the mode), a result shared, a setting changed, a quiz night hosted and a link to another Idistic site followed. Which answers you gave is never sent. The details are in the legal details below.
Offline play
To load quickly and work offline, your browser keeps a copy of the pages and scripts. This copy stays on your device.
Hosting
The site is hosted on a server in Germany (Hetzner). Like every web server, it briefly processes your IP address to deliver the page. Apart from the comparison and the quiz rooms above (our own services), Pub Quiz makes no other requests: no ads, no third-party fonts or images. Source links open other sites only when you choose to follow them.

The legal details
This part is what the GDPR (article 13) asks us to tell you, kept short.
Who is responsible
Pub Quiz is run by TWINDLE NEDERLAND B.V. (trading as Idistic), a Dutch private limited company. That company is the controller for the personal data described on this page. Contact: support@twindle.nl (English or Dutch). Company details.
What we use, why, and for how long
- Sending you the pages. Our web server uses your IP address and the address of the page you ask for, only to answer the request. We keep no access logs. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Limiting abuse. To stop anyone flooding the quiz rooms and the comparison service, the server counts requests per scrambled IP address: a one-way code made with a key that is thrown away every day. Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the service available (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Kept: one day at most.
- Visitor statistics. With Umami, which we host ourselves, we count page views and a few game events: the page, the site you came from, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language. Umami works out your country, region and city from your IP address without storing the address, and recognises repeat visits within a month by a one-way code made from your IP address, browser details and a secret that changes every month, which cannot be turned back into either. It sets no cookies and cannot follow you from one site to another. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in learning which pages and games people use, so we can improve them (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Kept: 25 months. The big-screen page on /pub-quiz/host/ and the phone page on /pub-quiz/join/ never load the statistics.
- Comparing daily results. When you finish this week’s Friday quiz in its own week (never a practice round, an archive day or in Calm): the game, the date of the edition, how many of the fifty you got right, how long you took and how many questions you answered (never which answers you picked or typed), with a random id. The id is kept only in your browser, under
pq1:cmpin local storage together with the days whose result was already sent (so each result is sent once), and we store it only as a one-way code. We never connect it to your name, email or an account, and other players only ever see totals, shown once at least five people have played that day. Legal basis: legitimate interest in showing you how you did against other players (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); you can switch it off in Settings. Kept: 60 days, then deleted. - Team quiz rooms. When you host or join a quiz night: the team names you type, an optional nickname per phone (not your full name, please), which answer each phone and each team gave to each question and when, the jokers played, the scores worked out from those answers, the host’s settings and a scrambled copy (a one-way code) of each device’s rejoin key. No accounts, email addresses, photos or chat. Team names, answers and scores are shown on the big screen; a phone shows its own team’s answers and score. Legal basis: running the quiz you host or join (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Kept: until the room closes (the host closes it, or after 30 minutes without play, or after four hours at most); then everything is deleted and only anonymous daily counts remain, such as how many quiz nights were played.
- When you email us. Your email address and your message, to answer you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in helping you (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), or our contract with you when it is about a purchase (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Kept: up to 2 years after the conversation ends.
For these statistics, this site keeps pq1:session in session storage: a marker that this visit was already counted as started; your browser deletes it when you close the tab. Nothing else in your browser is used for statistics.
On your device only, this site also keeps nfg:hist:pubquiz in local storage: your own game history (games started and finished per month, the days you played and your best scores), kept on your device for your year recap; and nfg:calm in local storage: whether you turned on Calm (large cards and text, strong contrast, no clock or scores, sounds off), shared by every No Fuss game on this device. They are never sent to us or anyone else, and statistics don’t use them.
On your device only, this site keeps pq1:ed:<number> in local storage: one per edition you play: multiple choice or typed answers, the round and question you are on and the answers you gave, so you can carry on, see your score and look back in the archive; pq1:settings in local storage: your theme choice (automatic, light or dark) and whether to compare your result; pq1:host in local storage: on the big screen only: the key and recovery code of the quiz room you are hosting, so a reload brings the room back; and pq1:seat in local storage: on a phone only: the key of your seat in a quiz room, so a reload brings you back into your team. They are never sent to us; clearing this site’s data removes them.
Who else is involved
- Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany) runs the servers this site and our services use, in its data centre in Nuremberg, Germany, as our processor.
- Nobody else. We don’t sell data and don’t share it with advertisers.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the personal data we have about you, to correct or delete it, to restrict its use, or to give it to you in a format you can take elsewhere. You can also object to what we do on the basis of legitimate interest (statistics, abuse limits and comparisons). Email support@twindle.nl; we answer within one month. Because we don’t ask who you are, we often can’t link stored data to you; tell us which site you used and when, and we’ll do what we can. Data kept in your own browser is yours: clear this site’s data in your browser settings to delete it. Every No Fuss Games game lives on nofussgames.com, so clearing that site’s data removes your progress in all of them at once; each game keeps its own saves under its own names, so nothing else is affected. Switching off “Compare daily results” in Settings stops the comparison at once. A content blocker that blocks stats.idistic.com stops the statistics entirely; the site works the same.
You never have to give us personal data to use this site. We make no automated decisions about you.
If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or to the authority in your own country. We’d appreciate hearing from you first.
