Skyscrapers
Fill the grid with buildings so every row and column holds each height once. The numbers around the edge tell you how many buildings you can see from that side, because taller ones hide shorter ones behind them. Every puzzle has one solution you can reach by logic alone.
How to play Skyscrapers
How to play
Tap a cell, then tap a height on the pad (or type it). A 5×5 grid uses heights 1 to 5, a 7×7 grid 1 to 7, and each height appears once in every row and column. Turn on Notes (or press N) to pencil in candidates; placing a height removes it from the notes in the same row and column.
How visibility works
Stand at a clue and look along its row or column: a building is seen only if it is taller than every building in front of it. In a row of 2, 1, 4, 3, 5, from the left you see the 2, the 4 and the 5, so that clue is 3; from the right you see only the 5, so that clue is 1. Select a cell to see how many buildings its clues see so far. A clue that is satisfied fades and gets a tick, and a clue that can’t be right any more gets a dashed ring.
Techniques
A 1 means the tallest building stands right next to that edge. A clue as big as the grid means every building is seen, so the heights rise 1, 2, 3 and on from that edge. A big clue also keeps tall buildings away from its edge: with a 3 on a 5×5 grid the cell next to it is at most 3, because a 4 there would leave only the 5 to be seen behind it. After that, try the ways a line can still be filled and keep only the heights that give the right count.
Levels and hints
4×4 puzzles need only those edge rules and singles: the one height a cell can hold, or the one cell where a height can go. 5×5, 6×6 and 7×7 puzzles also need a visibility count or a pair at least once, and the 6×6 and 7×7 grids may start with a few given heights. Hint takes one logical step, applies it to the board and explains it in a sentence.
Questions
What are the rules of Skyscrapers?
Fill the grid with heights from 1 to the size of the grid so that each row and column holds every height once. Each number outside the grid says how many buildings you see looking along that row or column from that side, and a taller building hides every shorter one behind it.
How do I start a Skyscrapers puzzle?
Look for 1s and for clues as big as the grid first: a 1 puts the tallest building next to its edge, and the biggest clue fixes the whole line. Then remember that a big clue keeps tall buildings away from its edge, and fill rows and columns where a height fits in only one cell.
Does every Skyscrapers puzzle here have exactly one solution?
Yes. Every puzzle was checked by two separate solvers that count solutions, and finished by a logical solver at its level, so you never need to guess.
Why do some rows have no clue?
A puzzle keeps only some of its clues, and on the larger grids a few given heights, while making sure there is still exactly one solution you can find by logic. A missing clue just means that side tells you nothing.
Is there a daily Skyscrapers puzzle?
Yes. The daily puzzle is a 5×5 Skyscrapers that is the same for everyone and changes at midnight UTC.
