Playing without sight
We want everyone to be able to play, including people who are blind or have low vision. These games have a screen reader mode: switch it on with the button near the top of the game, in Settings, or by opening the game with ?sr=1 at the end of the address. It is remembered on this device for every No Fuss game that has it.
- Klondike solitaire: playing with a screen reader
- Sudoku: playing with a screen reader
- Anagrams: playing with a screen reader
What works
- The whole game can be played with the keyboard alone, without seeing the screen.
- The board is built from real buttons, lists and grids, so a screen reader can read every card, cell or letter.
- Short spoken updates after each move, and commands to read the whole board, ask where something can go, undo and get a hint.
- Nothing is shown by colour alone: suits, givens, clashes and progress are spoken and written out.
- Choose short or full spoken detail. Screen reader mode works together with Calm (large print, strong contrast).
How we test
Every change is checked automatically in Chromium: full games played with the keyboard only, the accessibility tree read back, every spoken update checked for content and length, and an axe-core scan with no serious or critical problems. We have not yet tested with screen reader users on VoiceOver (Mac, iPhone), NVDA (Windows) or TalkBack (Android); we are looking for testers now, and we will update this page with what they find.
Tell us what doesn’t work
If something is hard to use, or you would like to help us test, write to support@twindle.nl. Please mention the game, your screen reader and browser. We read every message.
Everywhere on Puzzle Desk
Every game can be played with a keyboard (arrow keys and Enter or Space) and has a visible focus ring. Settings has Calm (large print, strong contrast, no clock) and Reduce motion, and the site follows your device’s light or dark setting. Games that are not in the list above are not yet fully usable without sight.
