The Grand Hotel’s winter ball has a swan carved out of ice as its centrepiece. Edie, Jonah and Lena were all among the guests. By ten o’clock the swan is a duck, and by eleven it is a puddle.

What happened

On the terrace, the patio heater was wheeled right up to the ice swan.
